Kits News - 16th June 2023

The Kits had a wonderful week this week preparing for ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ on Friday. The Kits spent the week talking about their Daddies and we engaged in a range of activities to prepare for their arrival.

It was wonderful to have all the Daddies come and visit and the children were very excited to have them at the Nursery. They made some amazing crowns together and we look forward to seeing the Kits wear them as part of our Sports Day races next week. We had a wonderful Music with Miss Leisa and the children loved ‘rowing their boats’ with their Daddies. The children were very good at saying good-bye to their Daddies at the end of the morning and the parting gift of biscuits we made the day before certainly helped.

To make the most of the hot weather we have spent a lot of the week engaging in water play in the Outdoor Learning Environment. We have explored melting with ice and used scoops and pipettes to melt it with water, freeing the natural objects frozen inside. We have also been caring for the garden and planting some new plants in the pots. We have talked to the children about what plants need to grow and the Kits have been busy helping to water them.

This week we have also been learning about our names. One of the aims for the Kits is for them to recognise their names by the time they move up to the Squirrels and they have all met this goal. To extend their learning we have now started to look at recognising their friends’ names and identifying the initial sound in them. To support this learning, we went on a name hunt in the Outdoor Learning Environment and the children have spent time learning how to write them, as they traced over the printed letters.
