Kits News - 21st June 2024

The Kits have had a wonderful week this week and the highlight was most definitely our annual Sports Day on Wandsworth Common! The children have been practising for the races throughout the week and it was wonderful to see so many parents join us on the day. In their groups the children took part in a running race, a hat race, potato and spoon race and a bean bag throw. We also participated in relay races based around the Kits and Squirrels topics this term. We placed animals in the tree, recreated Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, rescued some babies as we flew them to the hospital and drew some ‘snail trails’. It was great fun and the best bit was the nice cool ice lolly at the end and laughing as our Mummies and Daddies took part in their own potato and spoon race.

Throughout the week we have been practising and preparing for Sports Day and engaging in lots of other sporting activities such as throwing the balls through the hoops, walking along the balancing beams and throwing the scarves from the top of the climbing frame. We have been talking about Sports Day with the children in preparation for the event and we were so proud of how they all participated.

We have also been making the most of the warmer weather with some wonderful water play in the Outdoor Learning Environment. The children have developed their hand strength and fine motor skills as they have poured and scooped the water and loved a bit of splashing too! Their favourite activity was making drinks and potions with the water, flowers and herbs. They picked the petals and leaves off the flowers and we talked about the scent of the different herbs before mixing them together to make ‘coffee’, ‘hot chocolate’ and ‘vegetable soup’.
