Kits News - 30th June 2023

The Kits have had a great week this week exploring our Topic Book How to Brush Your Teeth with Snappy Croc by Jane E. Clarke and throughout the week we have been learning about dental hygiene and how to manage our own self-care. We spent time practising how to use toothbrushes in different ways such as cleaning the dinosaurs’ teeth and use them to paint. We also talked about our own visits to the dentist, when we clean our teeth and who helps us to make sure we brush properly.

Our Role Play Area this week is set up as a ‘Baby Day Care’ and the children were busy feeding and looking after the babies. They developed their ability to handle their own self-care needs as they dressed the babies, wrapped them in blankets and changed their nappies. We also took the babies for a bath in the messy tray in the Outdoor Learning Environment, washing them with cloths and wrapping them up in blankets afterwards. The next day we practised doing the laundry as we washed the babies’ clothes and hung them up to dry on the line, developing our fine motor skills and pincer action as we opened and closed the pegs.

During our Focus Time session on Thursday the Kits engaged in a food tasting activity. The children were introduced to a range of healthy fruits, vegetables and herbs and we talked about what they were called and where they grew. We discussed why they were healthy for us and why it is important to eat foods such as these to keep us fit and well. We then tasted the different fruit and vegetables and the children were able to share their likes and dislikes. Once we had tried all of them everyone voted for their favourite by placing a sticker on the chart, with edamame beans, pepper and sweetcorn being the firm favourites!
