Fledglings News - 25th September 2026
This week, we read a beautiful picture book called "Through the Eyes of Me" by Jon Roberts. The story is told by a little girl named Kya, who shares her experience of living with autism. We used this book to help our children celebrate what makes each of us unique. It showed the children that while Kya loves many of the same things they do, like running, jumping, and ice cream, she also experiences the world a little differently. It is a wonderful, gentle tool for building empathy, kindness, and understanding in our classroom.
To bring the themes of the book to life, our Role-Play area was transformed into a Sensory Space! We focused on building and adding to this area together throughout the week, focusing on a different senses.
On Monday and Tuesday we focused on sight and touch. We started with beautiful visual elements and lots of interesting textures for the children to explore with their hands.
On Wednesday and Thursday we explored sound and smell, introducing gentle sounds and calming scents to complete the experience.
During Snack Time we explored different textures and smells as well.
Our Art activity this week was creating our invitations for our Grandparents as well as staring to create a special piece of art for them to admire when they come to visit. We also had Sensory art opportunities available for the children.
