Kits News - 9th May 2025

Our topic this week was the book Rabbityness, which features a rabbit who loves doing “unrabbity” things that make him happy — such as filling the forest with music and colour. His joyful spirit inspires all the other rabbits, until one day he disappears, leaving behind only a black hole. The rabbits are sad for some time, but eventually they remember all the “unrabbity” things their friend taught them, and they fill the forest with music and colour once again. This really sparked the children's imagination as we encouraged them to think about where the rabbit went, what might have happened to them and also gave us a starting point to start conversations about emotions and what makes us joyful.

During one of our Focus times, we explored combining two media — music and painting. We played a range of music, from Beethoven and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to Baby Shark, encouraging the children to express how the music made them feel. They shared a wide range of descriptions such as “funny,” “scary,” “happy,” “cross,” “slow,” and “angry.” Their painting styles changed with the music — tapping brushes and making quick strokes to fast rhythms, and using their hands to spread paint in long strokes for slower tunes. The children had lots of fun and stayed engaged in the activity for around 20 minutes. Great focus, everyone—well done!

The highlight this week was our trip to Deen City Farm. The Kits had the best time at the farm, and I would like to say what a joy it was to join them! They listened to their teachers, stayed safe, and remembered all of Farmer Ben's rules. These included being gentle with the animals, not making loud noises around them, not kissing them, and washing our hands thoroughly at the end.

We enjoyed our journey on the coach — buckled up safely, singing songs, chatting, and spotting things along the way. Once we arrived at the farm, the children had a snack and a drink before collecting animal feed and setting off to explore the larger animals, who were all in their fields while their paddocks were being cleaned. The children had the opportunity to feed the animals by placing the food on the flat palm of their hands before offering it to them. We saw goats, who were the greediest and very funny, sometimes even fighting over the food! There were also sheep, pigs, a cow, and donkeys.

During the second part of our visit, we learned facts about rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets while gently stroking them. Farmer Ben told us that ferrets are very bendy, so we also tried bending all the way down to our toes! We concluded our visit by looking at the ducks and chickens before washing our hands and saying goodbye.

We were all very proud of the children, who were confident, very well-behaved, and showed a great attitude when trying new things. Well done, Kits!
