Squirrels News - 10th October 2025
What a very exciting week the Squirrels’ have had. On Monday we had an absolutely wonderful morning, welcoming our grandparents into the Squirrel Classroom. It was lovely to meet everyone, and the children had such fun showing their grandparents around the classroom and inviting them to play.
As a Focus activity with their grandparents the children decorated plant pots using stickers which was a fantastic way to develop their fine motor skills. Once the pots were ready, it was time to plant and water a bulb for our grandparents to take home. Afterward, we enjoyed Music with Miss Leisa, where the children proudly shared some of their favourite songs for their grandparents. It truly was a fun and special time for the children.
This week we have participated in Focus Times all about emotions, concentrating on the feeling of anger. What makes us angry and what are the positive ways we can respond when we feel that way? We have learnt about Karl Benz, our person of interest this term and how the car has changed over the years.
It was Karl Benz who inspired this week’s Role Play area, the hugely popular car wash! The children also wrote invitations to our Teddy Bears’ Picnic, inviting a range of fictional characters such as Batman and Superwoman. The children were enthusiastic and creative with their ideas.
As if Monday wasn’t exciting enough, this week we had a very exciting Outdoor Learning Day, as we were joined by some very special guests, our teddy bears for a teddy bears’ picnic!
Having made overnight oats yesterday in class to support Mary’s Meals, we made sure to bring them along. The children were fascinated to see how the oats had softened overnight, and the grapes, blueberries, and strawberries looked absolutely delicious.
Once we arrived at the common, the children began by collecting leaves on sticks, just like in our lesson a few weeks ago when we gathered leaves with numbers on them. Afterwards, it was time for a favourite game, Hide and Seek, followed by lots of fun and laughter with Duck, Duck, Goose.
Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: the children set off to find the teddy bears hidden among the trees! Once they were all discovered, it was time to sit down and share our snack with our cuddly friends. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and happy chatter, a truly lovely morning enjoyed by all.
