Squirrels News - 20th March 2026

The Squirrels have started their week on the construction site, as our Role Play Area transformed into a busy building site. There were homes being built, the tallest tower in the world taking shape, and even Battersea Power Station was having a redesign, with lots of work going on around the towers.

With Spring arriving on Friday, the children were also taking care of the animals on the farm, eagerly awaiting the birth of any newborn babies. Tap Tap was out as well, accompanied by a rendition of The Wheels on the Bus when one of the children created a bus using the pieces. Elsewhere in the classroom, children explored 2D shapes, practiced putting letter sounds together to form words, and enjoyed a super exciting new space game. In this game, the children took turns and counted their loops at the end to see who had won.

During Circle Time, we read our book of the week, Ruthie Tells a (Not So) Teeny Tiny Lie. The story is about Ruthie finding a toy that is not hers and claiming it is, before she apologises, which makes her feel better. We then shared our Weekend News before writing and illustrating it.

On Tuesday we started our day with a lovely story all about Leprechauns, before creating some St Patrick’s Day clover art to celebrate the occasion.

We then headed off on our outdoor adventure to the Secret Garden. On the way, we looked at house numbers and searched for signs of Spring - there are so many to see now!

Although the walk was a little tiring for some, everyone did brilliantly. Once we arrived, we met the Fledglings from 345 Wandsworth and the children were soon busy exploring. The grass was being cut on the playing field, which fascinated many of the children as they watched the big mower moving up and down.

There was lots of creative play too, including drawing with chalk and painting with water along the fence. Some children used pipettes to transfer water into a bowl on top of scales, where we talked about weight. Many also enjoyed sharing books alongside the Fledglings, confidently asking for things and sharing their ideas, including what they thought the mower was doing!
