Squirrels News - 26th April 2024

On Monday we celebrated World Earth Day. We thought about how we are able to support the planet and wrote our thoughts and ideas in our news books. Some of the examples including putting our rubbish in the bin and planting more trees. In light of these brilliant ideas we decided to go litter picking on our community walk and on our Outdoor Learning Day we planted seeds. To celebrate Earth Day we also watched a clip from a special children narrated episode of Planet Earth III.

Our topic book of the week was Thank you for the Little Things by Carly Hart. This book looks at appreciating the everyday things in life such as ladybirds, the bubbles in your bath or sticks you use to enhance your play. It offered a great opportunity to reinforce to the children that there are so many things to be grateful for even on days we might be feeling a little sad. To go along with this book the children have been giving daily affirmations where we think about something we have been grateful for that day. The children came up with some wonderful things to be grateful for such as our families, cuddles, bedtime stories, learning, nursery and sleep. To keep their affirmations safe we made our own affirmation jars which all of the children had great fun decorating.

In other areas of learning we have started to learn a new special song in Music and are continuing to develop our understanding of colours in Spanish. In Sport, sports day practise has begun and are already feeling very excited about the upcoming event.
