Kits News - 26th April 2024

The Kits had a lovely week this week exploring the topic book Walking through the Jungle by Julie Lacome. We used the book to support us in teaching the children how to use their ‘Walking Feet’ and it also developed their Communication and Language skills as we sang the song which accompanies the book.

We have spent the week engaging in ‘jungle’ themed activities and this started on Monday when we acted out the story and then took turns to pretend to be different animals, performing in front of our friends.

Our Role-Play Area has been set up as a ‘Jungle Hide Out’ for the week and the children have loved sitting in the den and using the magnifying glasses to look in detail at the toy animals around them.

During our Maths Focus Time we developed our counting skills as we slowed down our counting and focused on pointing to one animal at a time. During our Communication and Language Focus Time we developed our listening skills and concentration as we played an animal sound bingo game, listening to the different animal noises and then naming them with our friends. All the children loved the activity and they used pens to mark off the different animals they heard on their activity sheets.

Our Art project this week has helped the children to learn how to use their walking feet as they did some very exciting ‘foot painting’. The children spent the first half of the week working together to make a jungle ‘pathway’ using sponges to paint the pathway and then adding real leaves as well as pictures of leaves on top to add a jungle effect. They then took their shoes and socks off before dipping their feet in the paint and walking over their jungle collage. The children giggled at the experience of waking in the paint and described it as feeling “Cold”, “Wet” and ‘Slimy” between their toes.
