Squirrels News - 6th March 2026
This week, the Squirrels Classroom was alive with stories as we shared multiple books in our class library and enjoyed a variety of story themed set ups around the room in aid of World Book Day later in the week.
The children became fully immersed in The Hungry Caterpillar, dressing up as the caterpillar, pretending to hatch from an egg and munching through lots of delicious food before forming a chrysalis and transforming into a beautiful butterfly. The Three Little Pigs were busy building their houses to protect themselves from the Big Bad Wolf, while Goldilocks, the Three Bears, and Little Red Riding Hood also came to play. The Three Bears were extremely hungry and became impatient as they waited for their porridge to be served, while Goldilocks lay fast asleep in Baby Bear’s bed. Once Goldilocks had been scared away by the bears, the Three Bears decided to take a nap of their own, each cuddling their teddy bear.
Our Role Play library area was busy, with children sharing stories and enjoying being read to, while the story making table was also full of creativity. Here, the children selected three objects and thoughtfully worked them into their own story narratives.
Come Thursday the excitement was palpable around 345 as we celebrated World Book Day. It was wonderful to see the effort the children had put into their costumes. The magic of the day created an even more immersive reading experience as we shared the children’s favourite books.
During the first part of the morning, everyone was busy chatting about their costumes. As the morning progressed, the animal and dinosaur kingdom became the star attraction, with many children enjoying imaginative play in these themed areas. Later, we all sat together to make individual bookmarks, having discussed over the past few weeks the purpose of these wonderfully useful creations.
