Squirrels News - 8th March 2024

We have had such a jam packed, exciting week. With the excitement of World Book Day in the air, who would everyone be? This week has also been about our Mummies as we prepared for 'Bring Mummy to School Day’ as well as Mothering Sunday.

To celebrate World Book Day we opened a book shop in our Role Play Area where the children enjoyed purchasing books for themselves and their friends to read. In Literacy we used story cubes, engaging the children’s creative ideas and this led to some wonderful stories! When World Book Day finally arrived, we all had great fun dressing up as book characters and sharing lots of stories throughout the day.

In preparation for Bring Mummy to School Day, we started the week by thinking about a few of the reasons we love our Mummies. The children thought of beautiful examples of why their Mummy's are so wonderful such as "I love my Mummy because she gives me a kiss." "I love my Mummy because she reads to me" and "I love my Mummy because she makes me nice dinners."

We created a wonderful Mother's Day card using marbling for the background before creating a 3D daffodil using part of an egg box. Finally we practised our pen control and letter formation as we wrote inside the card.

As a special treat the Squirrels baked oat cookies for their Mummies which, having had a sneaky taste of the extras we all agreed were delicious. On Friday the time had finally come to welcome our Mummy into school. Everyone was so excited as the children set about making Easter bonnets with their Mummy. We took a short break from this as the children treated their Mummy's to some special songs. It was then time to carry on with our bonnets and have a play in the classroom. After the Mummy's left we went on a community walk, spotting things we could read in the environment. We found that we could read pictures, numbers and letters. What a world reading opens up. What an amazing week we have had.
